Where I stayed
Our friends, the Gannons
Our destination: the Gannon BD&D (Bed, drinks by the pool & dinner) aka John & Yvonne Gannon’s house in Los Altos. It was a fun afternoon & evening visiting longtime friends with the added bonus of seeing John’s parents, Ursula & Chuck and Christa with her two adorable children, Hailey & Luke.
6/1 We're off! Loaded up and out the door at 4:30 AM. Our trip north from Palm Desert takes us via the I-210 along the San Gabriel foothills thru Pasadena to I-5 N. Because of our cooler and wetter spring the foothills are greener than usual with many wildflowers in bloom. All along the way we see the tall blooms of the yucca plant reaching high above the floor of sage and purple vinca. Little Tootsie, packed to the gunnels with luggage, Hunter, my golden, Iris & I, scooted up the Grapevine without losing more than 10 mph on the incline. Love this little car! Up through the San Joaquin Valley the sights are golden rolling hills in the west and giant corporate agricultural fields of various fruits, nuts, & vegetables in the valley. The giant stockyards around Coalinga are the only blight in landscape. At Los Banos we head west to Hwy 101 heading thru the Pacheco Pass with its golden rolling hills dotted with oak trees that look like little green umbrellas.
