Full day of sights today.. started off with a 2hr cruise of the Hudson River, having a look at the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Skyline.  Very pretty.  The commentary on the cruise was pretty funny.  After the cruise, walked up to 42nd St to check out Times Square, which is basically a full block of shops.  Agreed with the cruise commentary that New Yorkers take red lights as a suggestion rather than the law - ie.  cars run them, people ignore them on crosswalks :)
After lunch went to have a look at the Empire State Building - luckily we had a prepaid pass because the lines were really long to get tickets.  We also got a free audiotour thing which was narrated by Tony Danza (remember Who's the Boss?  Or am I THAT old?)  View from the top was good.. wasn't too smoggy so could see a fair distance.
Walked from the Empire State Building to Grand Central Station, and then from there to Rockerfeller Centre where they had set up an ice skating rink.
There's pretty much only 2 ways to get around New York - walking or the subway.  After 2 days I still haven't figured out how the hell it works.  Each line is identified by a colour (but no-one ever references them by colour) and either a letter or a number.  Each line may stop at overlapping stops, but it may not if it's an express.  To differentiate which way you are going, it's either uptown or downtown for north or south, but you have to know which way you are going.  Paris and London metros are SO MUCH easier to navigate!  But we manage.
