we made it down the alcan!  no flat tires and no new cracks in our windshield!
we are safe and sound in san francisco a day early at irene's god parent's house.
we saw lots of wild life (bears, caribou, sheep, buffalo) on the way down.
and we stopped at the laird hot springs which were great after 3 days in the tent without showers!
in jasper, alberta, we stayed in campsite with showers that took almost an hour to check into.
the temps were roughly 46 F and the gas $5 a gallon!!!!!!  let's get out of here.
we stopped in winthrop where jason trained as a smokejumper and happened upon one member of his rookie class.  we camped on the base and the next day met 2 others from his rookie class and several other smokejumpers that jason knows.   it was fun to visit with them and relax a bit.
the temps quickly climbed to 80's as we drove to seattle.
we were unfortunate to happen upon seatle and tacoma at 3pm.  this made for 2 hours of traffic to get through the area.   but the rest of the time went well.  we made it to oregon and stayed in a hotel for once.
trinity-shasta national forest in california was dry, smokey and not what we expected, so we pushed on to san francisco a day early.
photos to come when we get to kimberly and steve's place.  phydough is doing well and irene's family and friends are all in good form.  thanks to everyone who flew or drove in to meet up with us.   it has been really great.
