was marked haphazardly and lobster pots were scattered everywhere. All eyes peeled as we looked for the plastic drink bottles that are used to mark where the pots are............not easy to see. As we approached the anchorage we were also greeted by the sight of several yacht hulls that were stranded on the shoals or mishaps from high winds so we were extra careful.
Here at last were some facilities though. A laundromat!!! How bad is that, when we can get excited about some washing machines! Chandlery shops.........the boys were in heaven
We stayed a couple of days and then decided we would move up the west coast to do a bit of exploring. Still with Awaroa we sailed past a well known landmark called Diamond Rock where the English held off the French by manning it with cannon and calling it HMS Diamond Rock. It was only when the French wrecked a boat loaded with rum onto it that they were able to defeat the English. .
We anchored in a bay called Anse Mitan, this was where Josephine the wife of Napoleon Bonaparte was born and her house here is kept as a museum. Once again it was blowing hard and with frequent rain squalls coming through. We were a little reluctant to travel too far from the boats so had to content ourselves with exploring a small shopping area known as Pointe Du Bout.
The beach was sandy, there were fresh water showers there, the water was arm and swimming in the rain is always fun.
