We were running low on supplies so we need to make the dash to Naxos.  18nm should be easy!

Once again left early hoping to avoid worst of the wind but by 0900 it was still increasing peaking at 34 kts.  Doesn't sound too bad to all those hardened yachties that may read this but the sea state is crap!!!  Short and steep with white bits on top.  It took us 5 hours motoring into it to cover that distance.

Front hatch leaked as Cuttyhunk dug her bow into the oncoming waves and my side of the bed got very wet.  Why is always my side?

Naxos harbour is not very big and had we not already visited here I would have hesitated to go in as it faces north and does take the brunt of the wind although a major breakwater built of huge marble blocks smooths out the sea.

We motored in to find it packed full of yachts sheltering, that's not surprising considering what we've just been through.  However we spied one very skinny gap and went for it.  No room for error, anchor down just before some rocks and pray the other boats will breathe in and let us park.  An Ozzie guy caught our lines and we were tucked up safe.  Thank you once again that angel.

Celebrated that night by revisiting the Jazz and Blues Bar we found 5years ago and had an ouzo or two to absent friends.

A really nice entry - made me feel I was right there with you. Fantastic that you are having a good time (althought those winds must be getting you down?) The Newspapers here have been reporting that it is very hot in Europe this year, maybe that might explain the strong winds you are having? Caroline and the Kids are in the UK (they have been there for the last month) - they return this Saturday - yahoo. Caroline has been reporting unusually hot weather over there. Keep up the great blog - our USA trip blog address is http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog/manningnz/1/tpod.html if you are interested - we have have an unbelieveable 11 500 visitors since it was posted and we still get comments. Aphrodite2010 is Brigid's Blog as you probably know?
Take care and I am looking forward to your next entry ...
