This trip was supposed to start from Boston, Massachusetts where my dear hard working angel had a few business meetings...but almost till the day of the departure we were not sure whether we would go or cancel the whole trip...one of our collective children - Alexandra (aka Sasha the girl) - just had an emergency procedure done, and we both were worrying terribly... it didn't help that we were in Boston, and she was in Detroit...she urged us to go regardless, but I couldn't get a hold of her doctor to see what he thought, so - we were prepared to spend some time in Michigan instead of faraway places... when I finally got to talk to her doctor he reassured me that everything was fine, the worst was behind, and he gave us "green light" to go...

So,we started from Boston...I love being in Boston, even for a few days...we go to San Francisco much more often, and I really like that city, but there is something about Boston that touches my heart on a deeper level, something very appealing and soo familiar...
maybe because it seems to be (at least to me) the most European-like city in the United States...
the scale of the city, layout of the streets, proportions of the buildings - everything in some vague way reminds me of Europe...and Europe appeals to all my senses...

we come to Boston relatively frequently, and when we do - more often than not we stay in Cambridge...the location is ideal for us - Cambridge is a vibrant college town, full of life and energy, with great bookstores, Harvard museums and charming little cafes... and yet - it's only 15-20 min metro ride from downtown Boston...

when my angel was at his meetings I walked around Harvard's campus and took a few pictures there...

then later, together, we went to Harvard's Sackler Museum (Harvard University has wonderful art museums - Fogg, Sackler, Busch-Reisinger... and we try to go to at least one of them every time we are there)...

we had lunch at our favorite hamburger place "Mr. Bartley's Gourmet Burgers"

then we walked around Cambridge a little...talked about having a little vacation in the Boston area one day...not just coming here for work and trying to squeeze a few hours here and there to enjoy this place together, but coming for pleasure only...maybe renting a car and going to Cape Cod...maybe to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard....well, perhaps one day...meanwhile, our other vacation was just ahead of us...
