Ok, so I am just a little bit behind in my blog writing, but I have been quite busy having fun... so I am sure you all understand! I have come to realise that I have not given myself nearly enough time to see all of the places I go to, there is soo much to do here I could spend the whole year just in South East Asia and probably still not see it all!
Vietnam has got an excellent bus service for backpackers, I was able to get an "open bus ticket" from Saigon to Mui Ne to Nha Trang to Hue and get on and off the bus whenever I wanted! So here is some of my adventures of the first 3 stops on this trip through Vietnam.
1. Saigon aka Ho Chi Minh City
Saigon was ok… not great just ok. It was a very busy city with crazy traffic…. just crossing the road was a near death experience. The highlight was going to the Chu Chi tunnels, where the Vietnamese army hid from the Americans in under ground tunnels for years! It was pretty insane to see the vicious pit traps etc that they used to kill the Americans. It was great to learn more about another bit of history that I knew very little about other than from films and computer games. But other than the tunnels it was just another big crazy asian city, so I left.
2. Mui Ne
The next stop was Mui Ne! It was a fantastic little beach resort – very quite, which was a relaxing change to the city life. I hired a motorbike that had really dodgy breaks, but it was great fun, even though I got ripped off trying to buy fuel at the petrol station. However despite this little setback I took off into the wilderness of Vietnam and just explored the local area! It was great…although I did get a little bit sunburnt! Next day I found a cool waterfall place… I don't know what else to say about it, but it was cool! The beach in Mui Ne wasn’t that good though as it was full of rubbish and jellyfish, so I left.
3. Nha Trang
Nha Trang was a brilliant city! It had the lively atmosphere of a busy city but was located right on the edge of the beach! The hostel I stayed at was run by the most smiley person I have ever met! She was like a dolphin on speed... I also met up with 3 German guys who I first met back in Saigon so had a laugh with them enjoying the Nha Trang nightlife! However after a couple of days in Nha Trang I started to get itchy feet again, so I left.
