We were going to stay two days visiting Petra, but after seeing it for 9 hours during the day and then three more hours at night, I struck a deal with Ian to leave the next day and go do the desert. It's holes, holes and more holes.... let's see something not so "holey" right now. :-)
After I promised Ian a 30 minute back massage and another 30 minute hair play, he agreed to leave the next day and go do another activity. Shweet!!!! Girls are good like that. We promise things but we always find a way out of those promises. BTW, I still owe him the massage today. heehee
We get a ride to Wadi Rum. This is a desert like area and to me it looked exactly like Lake Powell, but with no water. It was pretty neat. We got a Jeep ride with one of the Bedouins and since we are so lucky we ended up with a Bedouin Mario Andretti. He loved his desert and he loved even more his speed. He kept on looking back to see if we were ok and even though I was turning yellow, green and blue, I kept my cool and acted like I was Andretti's sister.
First stop is some sandy hill and it has some Nabateen inscription. (Hey, hey, hey, I know how impressed you are that I remember that!!) Not sure what Nabateen is though, but it seems like everyone talks about them here. :-)
Second stop another rock with Nabateen stuff. Hmmm... ok,. I don't think that this is too much information for all of you, so I am hoping that Ian can clear it up a little.
Third stop, ok I will stop now and have Ian finish the rest of the story since mine is looking like it will be repetitious.
Then after numerous very interesting stops, we get to our tent in the middle of the desert. We were expecting lots of people, lots of music, tons of entertainment, you know, the works as they explained it to us in the book. We get there and it was Ian, me, the driver and the cook that didn't want to wash the dishes after cooking dinner. Uhum... fun, fun! I can't wait to spend all night looking at each other. I remember earlier, we were figuring out what to pack and Ian specifically told me not to pack any entertainment because there will be tons of stuff to do. You should have seen his face when we stopped at the tent. I had secretly packed the dominoes and a magazine for me and Ian was wresting me to the grounds next to the tent wanting to get my stuff. Note to self again, never ever listen to Ian about entertainment. :-) The things that you learn on a trip about each other.....
It's about 5 PM and the sun sets and it gets really really dark. The camp didn't have lots of light and our headlamp barely made the cut, so around 8 PM after lots and lots of fun (insert sarcasm here), we head out to the desert with our mattresses and sleep under the stars. Ian wanted to sleep far away from the tent and I wanted to sleep right next to it because I was worried that some nut car will drive off in the middle of the night and not see two little mattress bumps in the middle of the desert. After numerous heated discussions with Ian, I finally win and sleep close to the tent. Lo and behold, I swear I am not making this up, soon after we laid on our mattresses, a crazy car drives right through where we were supposed to be sleeping and doesn't even stop. I shriek and grab on to my covers and hide underneath!!! I am going to die in the desert under the stars! I give Ian the "look". I didn't really have much more to say. He says :"we could have just waved and they would have seen us". Uhum...... I am so ready to get inside the tent, but I didn't want to spoil the moment, so we slept right there and watched shooting stars all night long!! I have wishes to come true for the next 100 years! Not bad eh?
