Visiting Holland in the spring wouldn't be complete without a visit to a tulip garden and today we got our wish - Serge dropped us off at the Keukenhof (to quote the flyer,) "The world’s most beautiful spring garden. In addition to over 32 hectares of flowers, the spring garden offers 30 inspiring flower shows, 7 amazing inspirational gardens and 100 wonderful works of art. Keukenhof is world-famous, truly unique, and has for over 60 years provided a wonderful decor to the most beautiful photographs."
It was a bit early in the season, so many of the flowers weren't quite in bloom yet, but the peacefulness and serenity of the gardens was a memory we will never forget! We saw a windmill, and I went up inside it. We saw the orchid exhibition and the new bulbs exhibition, but there were several other indoor exhibitions -- so many we couldn't see them all. We stopped and had a streusel in a cafe by the lake. We walked across the street (under it, actually) to the Castle of Jacoba de Bayernof, who owned and donated the land for the gardens. They were preparing for a huge sculpture show, so it was interesting to watch the workers at their tasks. A very wonderful, beautiful day.
