Hamburg is fun - the people are friendly. I went to see the Hafencity-development project; the biggest of its kind in Europe. Very impressive. Last year I spent some time in Berlin; that was rather depressing: Hamburg seems to be way more optimistic.

I had wonderful freshly roasted and brewed coffee in the port area; very delightful.Sunday morning at 5:30 it is the famous Hamburg Fishmarket. A must .... most locals party all night and then go there.

This weekend is "Leather Pride" - last weekend was "gay pride"; even the governor of Hamburg is a gay jew. I had dinner at the Sgroi restaurant, Lange Reihe - the gay area of Hamburg. It is bigger than Castro - and way more fun. ( And I am not even gay.)

Sunday: The Reeperbahn was fun: I can recommend the Freudenhaus (real authentic German food) in a very special setting - also nice: Restaurant East in the East Hotel. The Tivoli theater is unique. Hamburg has about 65 theaters and many are in this area.

There is construction everywhere in Hamburg - the city expands. Many modern buildings appear. The city was destroyed in WW2 - still they like Americans very much.

Today I toured the Hamburg City Hall. Hamburg has been in independent state for centuries and it is still a city state within Germany. (Germanys richest state)

I took the boat to Stade - a medieval city. Very beautiful and no American tourists. A wonderful day trip from Landungsbruecken-Ferryterminal. ( U can also take the train - which is cheaper; the Hamburg subway ticket is valid all the way to Stade; ask the locals)

Again I took the ferry to Blankenese ..walked along River Elbe to the Jenisch House; had my "tea time" there ( I actually ate too much cake, it was so delicious) and went to the Barlach Museum. Yet another beautiful day. Blankenese is a must!

Today I had breakfast at "Cafe Gnosa" again; then took the train to Ahrensburg. The Castle is beautiful.

Yet another beautiful day: Hagenbeck ZOO - one of the most famous in the world.
