We were with a great group of people, most of whom have done a lot of travelling and had some great stories to tell about diving, mountain trekking, desert races, tall ship racing and so on. The oldest were Danish couple in their early 80's!

After a relatively good night’s sleep, we set off at sunrise, arriving at Rinca Island, part of the Komodo National Park, at around 8 am. We had a great guided 2 hour trek where we saw a few komodos, monkeys and 2 buffalos having a mud bath. We headed for Kelor Island, our last stop before reaching Flores, for lunch and one more swim, and the crew played a game of volleyball on the beach.

We got to Labuanbajo on the island of Flores at around 3 pm and found a cheap hotel; some of the group spend one more night on the boat, as they had to fly out early the next morning. Labuanbajo is a very small town with one main road, a few restaurants, hotels and dive shops.

We had heard that Komodo National Park has some of the best dive sites in the world, both because of the amazing coral that has great conditions due to the meeting of warm and cold currents here and because of the diversity of the marine life.
Unfortunately we had been misinformed about when the next ferry to Sulawesi was - the next one was supposed to leave 6 days after we arrived, not 3 - so we decided to spend 1 day diving and fly out the day after. All the dive shops offer 2 dives for 800.000 Rp, and we chose to dive with Reefseekers, a 5 star PADI-licensed place that has a small shop in Labuhanbajo and a resort on Angel Island, their own island, 25 mins away by boat. We had a beautiful day with a great guide and went to Airstip (Manta Point), where we saw manta rays (!), and to White Sand, where there was amazing coral, plenty of fish, a blue-spotted sting ray, and a huge manta ray as we were finnishing the dive!
