This is probably our last visit in 2010. Havent been able to come here that often this year due to sporadic bouts of ill health and trips to other places, notably Kas, in the monsoons.
Being the last Sunday of the Diwali holidays, the car park at Dasturi was expectedly busy though not full at 8am when we got there. Surprisingly, there was not a single monkey in sight. Probably lying in wait for all the tourists on the regular pathways!
We set off for our usual haunts through the forest after a reviving cup of tea at the usual tin shack. After Mumbai, the air here felt so healthy and fresh.
The toy train at Jumapatti on its way up
Rubbly path through the forest
Clouds settled in the valley
Toy train winding its way up
View from the edge
At last at Mt Barry
The grasslands which were lush green on our previous visit, are now turning a russet red
Due to the good rains this year, this forest pathway is heavily overgrown
Monkeys at Dasturi car park. By now the car park was over full, more so than we have seen before.
Aircraft flying over Matheran
This has to be the most amusing political banner - seen at Shedung just before entering the Expressway to Mumbai:
