My favourite Mahabaleshwar-kar is the Indian Giant Squirrel.
Giant Squirrels are also found in Matheran and at Bhimashankar but they are shy there and run away as soon as they are seen. In fact they are easier heard than seen.
Here in Mahabaleshwar they are almost tame. Once you have sighted one in a tree, he is unlikely to scoot and will merrily chomp away on all the fruit he can lay his cute, grubby paws on.
Here is a cutie, I think a juvenile Giant Squirrel, seen in a forest tree near Lodwick Point.
