Where I stayed
Mahuli foothills, Tansa forest, Vashind, Thane district
The monsoons have started early this year, in the first week of June 2011. The forests at the foothills of Mahuli, a part of the Tansa WLS, are a good place to see early monsoon flora such as the various lilies.
We were not disappointed, in fact the icing on the cake was to discover a whole host of flowering Iphigenia indica - tiny little star shaped maroon flowers of the liliaceae family.
Pretty pink orchids of Aerides maculosum were in bloom on several forest trees.
The Mahuli pinnacles were for the most part, hidden in cloud. We saw several grey hornbills and racket tailed drongoes though they were too fast to be captured on [digi] film.

Comments
Melanthium Indicum is a different species? I thought monsoon lillies and Iphigeneia Indica were alike.
We have so many different species of monsoon lilies here in the Western Ghats
Could iphigeneia indica be the same species as iphigeneia boinensis, iphigeneia stellata and iphigeneia pallida?
I. stellata is pink. I dont know about those other iphigenias.
