We are all so glad that we decided to travel via private bus from Puno to Cusco versus the milk run.  It is a very long bus ride.  Being on a bus in South America is always a thrilling ride, you close your eyes, pray a lot and hang on tight.  These drivers are fearless and it often comes down to a game of chicken when two buses meet going in opposite directions.

Our drive takes us through the high Altiplano region.  When reading about this area on the Internet it sounded like a bleak barren place but it was actually quite a beautiful drive, through farmland and mountains,  not highly populated but still it did have a beauty of its own.

We arrive in Cusco early evening and all scramble for a shower, this one was not ice cold but very tepid, I am longing for a hot shower and a hair dryer.  We go out for a late dinner and I do mean a late dinner.  Time in Peru moves at a slow pace and I think it was about 11:00 before we finally ate - by that time I might even have eaten guinea pig I was so hungry.

The next morning our tour director  (Freddy)  takes us on a walking tour of Cusco.  It is a town with lots of history and lots of ruins.  It is the third largest city in Peru and everyone in our group fell in love with the city.  This may have been because most of the group are women and there is great shopping in Cusco.  After our morning tour the afternoon is free and we continue on shopping at the large market.  It is sort of like our farmers market but on a large scale.  All sorts of amazing produce, vendor stalls, everything from vegetables to handicrafts.  Many of the vendors are from the rural areas so just looking at their clothing is fun.  We all meet up in the evening for another late dinner and tomorrow we are off to visit Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley, our hike is getting closer.

You Wild Dancer!
I can't believe your amazing trip and I guess nobody took any pix of you in that dress, what a shame! You are a amazing writer, should have made that your profession. Can't wait till you get back and come for a visit. Love Monika
