After getting settled in our new room we head back to the Main Square in Miraflores. Ever the shopper my first destination is a large department store that I had spotted the evening before. It was large, 5 stories and very modern. A large selection of clothing and furniture was available with prices a little higher then at home. From the department store we strolled the neighborhood for a half hour before going back to the Main Square to get a better look at it in the daylight
. A mass is just ending in the cathedral so we peek inside but do not enter as it looks as though another one will soon be starting. Some people were crying and I wondered if they had lost family in the recent earthquake. Across from the cathedral we notices a large sectioned off area that was bing used for earthquake relief. We tried to make a cash donation but they would only accept non perishable items. They gave us directions to the local supermarket where we were able to buy diapers, baby formula, water and cans of tuna for the relief effort. It was very heavy to carry but others saw us walking in the direction of the relief center and they stopped to help us carry our parcels. The people here are helpful and friendly and those in our hotel speak excellent English. After exploring a little longer we returned to the supermarket to pick up wine, cheese buns, grapes and apples and returned to our hotel for a feast in our room. While enjoying our glass of wine in the room we felt an aftershock, it shook the little table we were siting at, but quickly stopped and did not seem to create any excitement amongst the locals so we did not worry too much.
Day two in Lima sees us changing our Hotel room as today is the day that we meet up with our tour guide who will be with us for the remainder of our time in Peru. A notice is posted in the hotel lobby and tonight we will be meeting our fellow hikers and have a get acquainted meal together. Tomorrow we fly to the city of Juliaca and then take a short bus ride to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca to begin the next part of our adventure.
