This morning we went to the Brujos Mercado (witch doctors market) where we found a shaman who did some magic over some charms we bought which were bottles filled with herbs and liquid. The people throughout the market were really friendly and i finally discovered why the people in these countries don't see chicken as meat. The chicken was located in the vegetable section of the market!!!!!! Marlene bought some coffee chocolate which was really disgusting. We then set off to the ruins of Sipan. There we hired a guide (in spanish only and i was suprised at the amount of it i understood) The basic information was that there were important people buried here and when they died his wife/son, guard and door guard were given the san pedro cactus (hallucinagenic plant) and buried alive with him. The door guard also had his feet chopped off so he wouldn't try to escape. There were also heaps of pottery containers found buried in there. There are probably more tombs in this area but we were informed that the Peruvian government won't fund any further excavations. After the tour we climbed up the pyramids (they are not even uncovered yet)....again i guess its a money issue. The guide told us that people tend to stay away from the area because of scary noises at night. I am not surpised by that as some of the people must have died horribly. The views from the top of the pyramids were really lovely and there were some birds hanging out there also. In the evening caught an overnight bus to chachapoyas. We were right in front of the toilet and it really stank. The airconditioning was off and the windows wouldn´t open so i got probably about an hours sleep over the entire journey.
