Wolves Point Don't know whether there were ever wolves there. Maybe when there were still grizzly bears in California. But Point Lobos is for me one of the mini gems anywhere. It is I think, only one square mile but for number and variety of views of the sea meeting the land, I would like to know other contenders so I can go visit them.
Rocky outcrops jutting into the Pacific with big surf rythmically crashing against them in an explosion of spray like a Japanese sea scape. And the sea otters placidly floating on their backs dining on the abalone on their chests. Also seals and sea lions frolicking among the breakers and giant kelp.
Then a short walk through wildflowers and scattered wind bent conifers to come upon a tiny calmest of coves at the base of a semi circle of low cliffs. Ideal for a picnic and placid swim.
Not a Yosemite or Big Sur but a magnificent miniature gem.
