Hey there friends,

Thought you guys might like to hear about my most recent excursions. I have finally visited the other land of my origin besides Germany. Yup, Italy...Rome and Venice to be exact. It was definitely the coolest experience yet. I went with three other blondes and, needless to say, we stood out a little.

[The adventure started on the train, when we thought we had booked a sleeper compartment for the four of us, but were assured by the class of French school children that had booked the same compartment, that we hadn't. A careful inspection of our tickets showed us that we had reserved the wrong day, and as a result, had to spend the twelve-hour overnight train ride sitting in the aisle. Major buzz kill. At lease we are young and resilient, and despite arriving with little sleep, we managed to make the most of the time we had in Italy.]

I have never done so much sightseeing before in my life. We saw the Coliseum, the ancient Forum, Caesar's Palace, the Roman baths, (all ruins of course), a bunch of cool bars on a pub crawl, St. Peter's Basilica, and the Pope. The big guy gave a speech at the Vatican to all the Catholic school children of Italy and my friends and I were fortunate enough to crash it and not get caught. It was pretty cool, but he was speaking in Italian and for all I know he could have been saying "down with non-Catholics" and we were cheering like mad. Oh well, a nun gave me a banner that said, "Italian Catholic Children unite with the Pope," (in Italian). That was pretty nice of her...you know those nuns...always doing something nice. Unfortunately, due to the Pope's speech, the Sistine Chapel was closed, so I missed out on Michelangelo's masterpiece, but hey, I saw the Pope. I can't really complain.

Of course, better even than seeing the Pope was the food we ate. Mama Mia! I had the best Cappuccino, Tiramisu, and red wine that I have ever had in my life. The Tiramisu especially. The four of us went around sampling it at every place we went. No wonder we're all so fat now. Delicioso!

So we spent two full days in Rome and then headed off to Venice for the third day.
