I need to do lots of catching-up! Two weekends ago, I went with three friends to Eilat for a weekend. Eilat is a resort town in the southern-most point of Israel which sits on the Red Sea. It was a shlep, a 5hr bus ride from Tel Aviv, but worth it for gorgeous weather (high 80s F) and a fun weekend.
We spent our time at the beaches--the reason to go to Eilat--which face crystal clear water and the desert of Jordan, a beautiful view from any angle. I played mat-kot (paddle ball) at the beach, saw dolphins up-close at a special reef, and went scuba-diving! There is amazing underwater life at Coral Beach, I remember seeing it when I went snorkeling with the family there 10 years ago.
While a fun vacation spot, Eilat also hosts the trash (frechot and arsim) of Israel. We were ripped off by cab-drivers and bombarded with quarter-cards for nightclubs. A weekend was the perfect amount of time to spend there, and my friends and I had a great time!
