Where I stayed
Hot Rock Base Hostel
Today we went to a place called the Karangahake Scenic Reserve, which was a big gold mining spot. Went on a hike that crossed over two swing bridges and winds up through the mountain, going through a 1 km long tunnel in the dark. Pretty sweet. Or "sweet as" I should say. Hit up a town for lunch called Matamata, the filming location for Hobbiton from Lord of the Rings. Also never seen it. (Sorry Steve). Stayed in Rotorua, known for its geysers and sulphur springs, and smells like it.
Went to a place at night called Tamaki Maori Village, where they reenact Traditional Maori tribal welcomes and warrior dances. the few chiefs they picked from the crowd have to stand up there in not crack a smile while these warriors do this actually somewhat intimidating dance, the problem is the faces they make are hilarious. The chief from our bus didn't do very well. The warriors take it really seriously though. And I was laughing even from the stands so I wouldn't have had a chance.

I would've paid to have them make you have to stand up there and not laugh.
Just about the only good part of Rotorua is that you can pass gas (i can't post the word f*rt!) & nobody will notice cuz the town already smells like rotten eggs! Hope you tried it out. :-)
