October 30, Jabal Shams and Grand Canyon
Crazy drive up the mountain "Jabal Shams", which happens to be the tallest in Oman…we did not walk up to the peak… but camped in the wild plateau, where goats and rocks were our sole companions. Up here, it is not only windy but chilly, and so, as we often did in Africa, we ate sitting right besides the car, trying to hide from the wind. At night, we felt cozy in our big tent…and happy we had brought real sleeping bags. The morning coffee was under a bright sun and looking down the “Grand Canyon”, one can feel dizzy… some small path winds its way down to the narrow valley below… at a village that we went to visit afterwards, once we had driven all the way back down the mountain and into the canyon to see it. A village literally cut off from the rest of the world if it rains and the stream overflows.
30 octobre: Jabal Shams et Grand Canyon
Route folle vers le haut de la montagne "Jabal Shams", qui se trouve être la plus grande à Oman ... nous n'avons pas marché jusqu'au sommet ... mais avons campé en haut du plateau sauvage, où les chèvres et les roches étaient nos seuls compagnons. Là-haut, il ne faisait pas seulement venteux mais froid, et donc, comme nous l'avons si souvent fait en Afrique, nous avons mangé assis juste à côté de la voiture, en essayant de nous cacher du vent. La nuit, nous nous sommes sentis confortables dans notre grande tente ... et heureux que nous avions apporté de vrais sacs de couchage. Le café du matin se but sous un soleil radieux et regardant vers le bas du «Grand Canyon», on peut se sentir pris de vertige ... un petit sentier serpente jusque dans la vallée étroite tout en bas ... dans un village que nous sommes allés visiter ensuite, une fois que nous étions redescendus de la montagne et avons roulé dans le canyon pour le voir. Un village littéralement coupé du reste du monde si il pleut et que son cours d'eau déborde.
