Aug 12   Naivasha

So, here we are, in the beautiful villa I found on the net and I think: this must be the best accommodation we will ever have during the year, so better enjoy it ! But the weather is rather cool and though there is supposed to be a great view of lake Naivasha ahead of us, most of the time, it is hidden in the clouds. We have a great pool, yet, no one has gone in it except Roman who jumped in and out right away ! Let's hope that someday the sun will be out and it will get warm…of course, this is Kenyan Winter…so… the garden is gorgeous and someone obviously spends a lot of time working at it. We occupy the cottage, Tristan and Peggy stay in a small lodge, but you should see the big villa next door... it is unreal how well decorated the place is!!

Electricity comes and goes and so far, we have not been too "bothered" though yesterday Lance cooked the chicken with a flashlight... glad that we have a gas cooker rather than electric. There is also a barbecue outside but under the rain...

The owners have 4 dogs who sleep right at each door...it is funny how they almost blend with the doorsteps...me, who don’t particularly like dogs...I don’t mind these ones...they are quiet (most of the time) and they don’t bother me.

It was nice getting to meet Laura and Brian again for a barbecue here one day, after one year of being away from Summerland...they were travelling and managed to come out of this way to see us.... they are going back home soon.

Yesterday was spent in Hell’s gate National park where one can cycle or walk and where Laura Croft (Angelina Jolie) played in the movie.... I guess, after reading the Lonely Planet I had pictured it in my mind and I was hoping for something even nicer...like Roman says: “Mom, you have travelled too much already”! Maybe, but I will have to admit that US Zion and Yellowstone Nat Parks are far nicer... Nonetheless, it was very interesting to see how a geothermal station worked (and boy, does this bring pipes and tubes everywhere throughout nature!!), we got to walk and drive over obsidians everywhere...when back home it costs me so much to get such stones for my science class...here we even went to an obsidian “cave” (overhang really) with huge boulders... I love these rocks, they are so smooth and glassy looking, my favourites really.

The animals out here are far easier to see than in Tsavo and like Tristan says :”I got to run with the zebras”....

Peggy was prancing around throughout the fields until I asked “What are you doing?”

“Trying to get away from the ticks!”...and sure enough, this morning, Roman found a well fed one on his leg...hum... next time, I will keep to the trail. Peggy is the animal lover: spider under her postcards, slow worm in her loofa...I’m glad they seem to get to others rather than me!

At night, we watch movies on the laptop and so we watched “Out of Africa” again, though Tristan did not seem to like it that much...nonetheless, after visiting Tsavo and seeing Finch Hatton’s safari camp, “la boucle est bouclée”... when we pass by Nairobi, I would like to visit Karen Blixen’s farm. I still love the movie, there is so much in it really, besides the obvious love story...
