We left West Point on Sunday and made the 245+ miles to Gettysburg.  Fortunately we had good roads and good weather.  We are all getting pretty good at planning our travels.  I am the official navigator with the GPS.  Sometimes we do not always agree with the route the GPS chooses for us so we compare to our many maps....Road Atlas and a state map if we are lucky to get one.  We have stopped at every visitors center at each state line to get their state map....NY state is the only state so far that we have not been able to get a map for?  I guess NY does not want you to come into their state and if so they want you to drive straight thru! We were lucky to have a GPS and a good road atlas to get around while we were in NY state!

We made it to Gettysburg in good time and it was a pretty drive!  We stayed at a Good Sam campground very near all the battlefields which was good also.

We got up the next morning to cloudy skies again!  But we didn't let that stop us.We started our day at Gettysburg National Military Park and Museum.  We bought tickets to see a movie which gave us a good history reminder regarding the Civil War.  It was very helpful to see it prior to our tour of all the battlefields.  They also had what they call a Cyclorama....which is a painting in the round.  This was an actual oil painting on canvas displayed in a special circular auditorium.  I guess it was a very popular form of art  and entertainment in the early 1800's.  Anyway it was a wonderful presentation.  We then went to the museum which had again plenty information , artifacts and a very good history reminder. The Civil War was such a huge piece of our American History.  It saddens me to realize how many people died, brother against brother.  The museum was well worth the time we could have easily spent all day there but we only had the one day scheduled at Gettysburg.  So we had a quick lunch and off we went to discover the battlefields.
