Where I stayed
Dear Fellow Travelers:
This is my first entry into the blogosphere. I travel extensively and have been asked to share my adventures and information about each place. I hope this helps you with your own journey. Please let me know how what you would like to see in my writings. I plan to include walking tours, organized tours, restaurant information, shopping, hotels, etc.
As is my custom I try to always walk a city and get to know its hidden corners and venture outside the 'organized tour' bubble. It is not difficult to see a place in this manner. I also use public transportation wherever possible. It is easy and inexpensive. This is particularly true of San Francisco. You can go anywhere via the cheap, easy and clean public transportation system which includes: Street Cars, Electric Cars, Taxis, Buses, BART and other subway transport.
Places to stay:
I stayed at the Westin Market Street. I chose the Financial District/SOMA (South of Market) because of instant access to fine restaurants, hotels, museums and public transportation. There are a number of hotels in the City. I generally check out Frommers online to see the various hotel available and their ratings are fairly reliable.
When booking, I always check Expedia or Travelocity and then I check the hotel's website. Be aware that the best rates may come via Expedia but may not be refundable. Also there is the option to rent a home which is not that much more that a hotel and for a longer stay may be worth investigating. Go to VRBO's website (Vacation Rentals By Owner).
A couple words about the Westin hotel: comfy beds. That is all I have to say about that.
