another one of my very good friends for most of my life is dave g - currently living in italy with his girlfriend sara (whom i have met before when they both came cruising shortly after i started working on ships). i flew to genova on italy's north west coast, and they hosted me VERY well for the few days i was there. thanks guys!
firstly, can i say that i love italian food. and sara took care of that one - my stomach was in heaven. they have a great apartment up on the hills around genova, where the views are amazing. genova is a great city, formely the med's largest port (and still very much bustling) with lots of history and sights to see. and home to a million and one scooters - everyone has one. i had a great time here with these guys, seeing the city and enjoying the local area.
our first road trip was down to cinque terra - which translates as the five lands. it is 5 fishing villages along the base of some cliffs, with a walking trail connecting them all. see the pics as they tell the real story - amazing.
we also drove up to nice in france, and swung by monaco on the way back. this was excellent and i found this trip particularly inspired me to do more travelling in europe. now that i have covered the basics in the UK i am really motivated to get back and see so much more. i would also love to do a ship in the med, so that i can get paid to go to all these amazing ports. but we shall see if and when that one works out...
