I headed out on Sunday to see primarily the monkey mountain at Arashiyama near Kyoto and thought this train is a bit crowded for a weekend as it was sardine cannish like peak hour. After standing most of the way to Arashiyama I get of the train with the masses and the multitudes heading for the river and I think to myselfe "my this place must be popular!,maybe theres a festival on".Anyways I head on over to the monkey park wich was thankfully less crowded and I noticed the autumn foliage. This was the reason for the crowds!A breath taking display of colour the like of wich I have never seen.
The climb up the mountain was steep which is always good for what ails, the views from the top and of the autumn foliage on the way were amazing. The monkeys were fun and rude and lets face it too much like humans! They werent particularly cute but then cuteness is not nescasarily a prerequisite for lovability.I fed them banana's from the cage which they grabbed delicately and human like with their human like hands as they squabbled and hissed at each other to get a good position.Outside the cage on the trail however the monkeys seemed shy and a bit confused as to how to behave in our presence.
After the monkey mountain there was a nice walk on the river and a not so nice shuffle through the crowds in town and a bento box with crumbed fish and rice and one of those little tiny frankfurters and then I braved the crowded train back to osaka.
