Food obsession is not just a japanese thing its probably an asia wide cultural thing but Osaka is the Japanese capital of food. There is nothing much else on television except Osakan comedians and celebrities sitting in restaurants eating and joking around and discussing food, or travel programs which feature local food specialties. In fact
i'm watching a program now that involves 2 young guys running around Osaka sampling crumbed and fried chicken at various local stalls and restaurants and everytime they show a close-up of the succulent chicken being pulled apart to reveal its succulentness, the audience oohs! and ahhs! in reverence of the awesome feed.I was recently lost in Namba City shopping mall's delli section.Halfe a floor of mind boggling selection of strange sea creature bits and root vegatable things and cakes and sweets and yes crumbed chicken and yes what was my point? I've forgotten! anyway, I came away with some amazing honeyish flavoured chicken and lotus root for dinner that night.Hey! the foods good here-saiko!(the best!)
I dont speak Japanese,I know a few words that dont always appear at my command and very few Osakans speak English,so does this cause problems? Nah! Osakan are incredibly laid back and easy going for city people and seem very pleased i'm enjoying their city and not that other more popular city.and they've never made me feel like-the foreigner!,even though really i am often, the only gaijin sometimes for miles
Transport!-when you're used to a rediculously ineffective and useless system as us Australians are,one as well oiled and functional as the Japanese public transport system is,seems at first to be confusing and complicated, and at second, and third, but it works because everybody uses it,those that arent riding their pushbikes on the footpath that is! Not getting run over by tredly's is like a martial art-Ninja training or something.

The food sounds very interesting . I am glad the locals are making you feel welcome, it sounds great. How is your money holding out. Will you have enough for the month or will you have to cut it shorter. The cats are very happy now that we are home, but they still look for you occasionally. Have fun.

Your trip sounds great, the exploring that you're doing and stuff. Sounds like the kind of travel I want to do. The photos are really cool too.

Just love reading your blog. It's giving me itchy feet though. Keep the entries coming. They're great reading.
