Today I got up early again, as there is lots to
do. I had breakfast then I went back to my room to finish packing my
bag. I then had to check out of the hotel, this was because I then
had to check in with the contiki group, but I couldn't do that until
later this afternoon. In the mean time I stored my bags in the hotel
luggage storage, then left the hotel.

I walked down to the metro station and caught
it to the next stop, here I got off and tried to find the museum of
pottery. I found the museum but it was not open yet, so I wandered
around, found some more ruins and then came back to the pottery
museum to see if it was open yet. It was not, even though it was
supposed to be. In the mean time I got a call from my dad, he thought
that it was an hour earlier then it was, thinking that I was on
normal European time, not on Greek area time – how appropriate.
After giving up on the museum of pottery I went back to the station
and caught the metro to the Syntagma square. In the stations they
have screens showing the temperature of the outside and it was
already above 30 degrees and it was only 9.30am, it was going to be
another hot day.

From Syntagma square I walked to the Benaki
museum. This museum had lots of pottery, art works, statues and other
things on display, it was a great museum and I wandered around for a
bit. I then left this museum and walked down the street to the museum
of Cycladic art. This museum had a lot more to do with art from the
area, but still included pottery. I stayed here for a bit before
leaving, returning to Syntagma square and then heading for some more
museums. I found the national museum. The national museum was closed.
I walked around the area, having a look at some of the shops, then
found the museum of Athens. This was only a small museum but told the
story of the city of Athens and had some great maps and pictures on
display. After leaving the museum of Athens I went across the road
and rested in the park, while I decided what to do, to my right I
could see the university and behind me a busy street. I decided that
I was going to go to the national Archaeological museum. I got up,
walked to the metro station, again passing some displays in the
station itself. I headed for Victoria station. At this station I
walked down the street, found a cafe to have some lunch and ordered
some food. While eating I just relaxed and looked at the busy street
around me.

After lunch I walked a bit down the road and
reached the national archaeological museum. I had to wait to get in
as they open later on Mondays, but it was worth the wait. Even though
there were lots of people trying to get in, once everyone was in, the
museum was big enough that people soon got lots inside. There were
some great statues here, and the amount of stuff that they had was
amazing. I walked around for a few hours, just taking in all that was
on offer, then I had to go. I decided to walk back to the hotel, and
of course I walked back through a dodgy looking area, but got through
ok. I reached the area that I turned back from my walk on Saturday
afternoon and knew where I was. I stopped for a gelato on the way and
then continued until reaching the hotel. Here before going inside I
decided to go to the Library of Hadrian. It was not far, and it was
well worth the visit. I walked around a bit. It was now late
afternoon and it was very hot. After the library I decided to go back
to the hotel and cool down. On the way I stopped at the markets and
bought some small souvenirs. I also had a look around the area. I
made it back to the hotel, checked in and meet my new room mate
David. He was on my Contiki tour as well and had just started his
trip. After talking for a bit, I used the internet, downloaded all my
pictures, showered, updated and repacked my bag. It was nice and cool
in the room.

I relaxed for a bit and then went down to the
breakfast room at 7pm. This was where the contiki meeting was. It was
a short meeting where we meet our tour manager, did the paperwork
stuff and signed on for the optional dinner tonight, we also got
information about the morning activities and plans. After the meeting
I went back to my room, got changed and repacked my bag. At 8.15pm we
meet up again at reception and went to dinner. Dinner was in a
restaurant in the plaka area, it had great food and Greek dancing. I
meet some more people from the tour including Michelle who set up the
facebook group. All my table was from Perth, it was amazing. The
dinner was great and there was lots of wine to be had. After dinner
we went back to the hotel, we then went back to the roof top bar and
talked a bit more. Here I meet the American girls and Kyle from
Canada. We just talked, then took a group picture before we went to
bed at about 12.30am. We had to get up early in the morning.
