I woke up just before 7am. I'm feeling better,
the mountain air must be good. But im still coughing, not much but
just a bit. I dressed, packed up my bags then went to breakfast.
After breakfast I took my bags to the coach, claimed my seat and then
helped others with their bags and helped load the bus. Once everyone
was on the coach, we left, had our day song and the standard talk.
After the talk by Jordie, I fell asleep and only woke up again when
we got to the border
this rest stop I purchased another travel pillow as the one I had I
lost somewhere. This one was a blow up one.
Back on the coach after the rest stop I did
some reading and listened to my ipod. The views were also pretty good
around here. We stopped in Heidelberg just after 2pm, got walked into
the town centre and were told we had 2 hours to explore. I had a look
around the markets first then went to the famous church in town. This
was where Luther nailed his message on the door. I explore the church
and went up into the roof. It was a nice church, and organ music was
being played. I then left the church, got some souvenirs and then
walked up to the Heidelberg castle. I didn't go in but took pictures
from the outside and admired the views
headed to the coach.
Just after 4.30pm we left the city and started
our way towards the Rhine valley. I was admiring the scenery, while
everyone was asleep. We arrived in the town of St Goar about 5.30pm,
had a bit of time to look around then we went to the stein shop. Here
they had lots of steins of many varieties and sizes. They also had
Berlin wall steins. We got a bit of a talk by the owner on what they
were about then had time to explore the shop and make our purchases.
I got a special contiki stein and 2 others. They had a postage
service, so for a cost they would post it to you, so I took advantage
on that offer.
After making my purchases I went and explored
more of the town. I went to the giant cookoo shop and had a look at
some of the other shops. After everyone was ready we went next door
to the stein shop and had dinner, this was an included dinner and it
was ok, just some sort of chicken, with pasta
to the wine tasting optional. This was located in a wine celler and
we tried 4 different types of Rhine valley wines, plus we got to keep
the tasting glass. They also had some special ice wine to try as well
so I got some to try and liked it so I bought it. When everyone was
finished we left the celler and found that it was now raining, so we
quickly ran to the coach and got on.
Our next stop was our accommodation for the
night – Grandma's place. It had another name but it was know as
grandma's place because inside it looked like your grandma’s place.
It had pictures everywhere and stuffed toys and doilies and other
strange things. It only took about 20 minutes to get there and we got
off the coach to find our rooms
to pack a day bag before leaving this morning. It would have been
hard to lug our bags around anyway, there were rooms everywhere, up
stairs and down stairs, some that could only be reached by going
outside and then in another way. I roomed with Ken and our room was
on the other side of the building, down some stairs and around a
corner. My bed had a saggy mattress. I dumped my stuff then we had an
explore of the other's rooms, some had massive rooms, others had
small tiny rooms. We then went to the big deck our back, after
getting some beers and sat and relaxed. It was not going to be a big
night tonight as tomorrow we would be in Amsterdam. At about 11pm
everyone started going off to bed, so I did the same as well. While
we were chatting on the deck we were joking that the place was
haunted and that no one was safe, but we shall see in the morning.
