Where I stayed
Very early start (4:30am) to go to Borobudur temple and see the sunrise. Pity it was raining a lot all night long and even though it stopped when we woke up the sky was still very cloudy so we couldn't really see the sun coming up. At least it wasn't too hot, and we could climb the 10 floors of the temple easily enough. Amazing. Hundreds of big stupa arranged in squares on the top floor and loads of beautiful carvings all over the other layers. Quite a surprise. So it was the amount of students that were there to talk to tourists and practice their English. Millions of them! All armed with cameras and big smiles. We posed for a number of photos, gave a few "interviews" while trying to see the place.
After that we went to a beautiful complex of hindu temples called Prambanan. That was a real surprise! Pretty similar to Angkor Wat but with different style carvings. Very well preserved as well!
Considering that we didn't know of its existence that was a good bonus to the trip!
