Sandy's is a popular beach for body boarders because it has a short reef under the water close to the shore so it is easy to get good waves, and sweet barrels, even when it is relatively flat. The only downside to this is that if you eat it you fall in to very shallow water! It is funny to watch the body boarders here because there are always a ton of them, all crowded together fighting for the waves, so when someone gets a good wave they end up running over everyone else! Lifeguard note: You do not want to go in the water at this beach unless you are a strong swimmer or an experienced body boarder, it is too dangerous!
We ate our picnic lunch and just relaxed...while applying sunscreen often! Since we are pasty white from being in Antarctica we wanted to make sure we did not burn, but instead got a nice even tan so we could continue going to the beach everyday! We made a quick stop home to change before meeting Shannon's parents at the Village Inn for some dinner.
This morning we took a hike up the Mariners Ridge Trail which is a 2 ½ hour turn-around hike that starts at the back of the Mariners Ridge neighborhood and winds it's way through the trees up some small mountains. Upon reaching the top, there is an amazing view of Hawaii Kai, Waimanalo, and Kailua as well as a faint view of the neighboring Island of Molokai.
After our strenuous, yet invigorating workout, we headed over to Alamoana Beach Park for a picnic. We enjoyed relaxing on the sand while watching the waves and listening to a college cheerleading team practice their routine surrounded by a crowd of locals. We didn't stay too long because Shannon had to go to work for a few hours. We stayed at home reading and catching up on email until she returned.
Once she was off work we stopped by the store to pick up some stuff to BBQ during our kayaking trip tomorrow and then headed down town to The Yard House to get some dinner.
