Where I stayed
We awoke very early to the blinding sunlight, loud traffic and squawking birds...it's going to be a looong day!
We got ourselves together and headed out to the airport. Along the way we stopped at the Koa Pancake House for some breakfast. They have the best strawberry crepes ever! We arrived at the airport, said good-bye to Shannon and made our way to the check-in counter. We finally got through all the checkpoints and headed up to the gate when Michelle noticed her ticket was no longer in her pocket! Having a mild heart attack we quickly re-checked all of our stuff and then split up to search the area. Thankfully when Michelle went up to the ticket counter to explain the situation to the ticket agent she immediately handed her the lost ticket. Whew!
We boarded the plane to discover that we were surrounded by toddlers; one right next to us, and two directly behind us. Everyone knows how much we love children...this is going to be a long 5 hour flight! We were smart enough to have brought some of our own snacks (spam musubi, of course!) so that we wouldn't have to pay the outrageous prices for the food on the plane. It is amazing how expensive everything is getting to be in States these days...these little revelations made us miss being abroad! By the time we were getting ready to land we were both at our wit's end; the children were running up & down the aisle pulling on Michelle's armrest and Aaron was desperately craving a cigarette. Finally the plane pulled up to the gate and we were free!
We were surprised to enter the terminal and not see any signs that said 'welcome to LA' or something similar anywhere in the airport. We headed down to baggage claim where we were met by Aaron's sister, Martha and her boyfriend, Ben. They helped us get our stuff and then we headed outside to catch the shuttle to our hotel. Once we got checked in we walked down the street to the other Marriott to eat in one of their 5 restaurants since they were the closest ones to us. We ordered up some burgers & beer and spent the next few hours catching up. On our way back to the hotel we finally saw a sign for LA...it was pretty hard to miss!
