The reason we visited was the absolutely beautiful lake in the crater of a dormant volcano and the three nearby waterfalls. We hired two motorbikes and Ben finally got over his fear and loved every minute of the ride. The dust however made it hard as the dust got in your eyes and when a truck went past, there was no visibility for a good 30 seconds. At the lake Ben made some friends. Three young Cambodian women who were all over him ha ha. One in particular was quick to establish that he was her boyfriend. The first waterfall was very tall, and you could walk behind it. The second was the most fun. The young lads there showed us how to climb up it and jump from it. The third was like the one off The Beach only the water level was too low to jump from the top. On the nights we drank cheap Cambodian Whiskey with 3 very funny young lads from England and two Canadian lasses. The crack was great, conversations like, Miss Piggy or Laughing Cow? or do Ritz make square biscuits?
We left after four nights and headed back to Phnom Pehn and then go to Vietnam. On the bus back the two Canadian girls found a puppy at a restaurant which we had a break at. They hid it in their bag. God knows what they had in their mind to do with it? Like Amy said "a puppy is for life not just for traveling".
It was a good thing to get away from the backpacker scene and this backwater town gave us alot more opportunity to speak to the locals.
Well that was Cambodia and we loved it. Angkor Wat, Phnom Pehn and Ratanakiri were excellent. We loved the people who always wanted to practice their English with you. The country has had a horrible recent history but they are such happy looking and friendly, you would never know what they have had to put up with in their memories and their day to day lives. A great country to visit and went far beyond our expectations.
