The Backpackers Inn was very busy this morning with a couple all wheel Drive Trucks full of Tourist from all over the World where getting ready to pack up and leave.... luckily for me I had Breakfast before the all stormed into the room.
Cold and Cloudy morning made the Cycle ride quick to the Airport , where I met Juergen an German Expat which leaves now here for some Months out the Year and is busy collecting VE Synchro Buses which are quite rare this Days and he has seven of them.
Would love to have of of those since this old VW 4 wheel Drive are so much better than the new Generation Buses.... I told him nobody need seven of them , but i guess he is a Collector.
We chatted and hi showed me all his Toy's and when I told him about my plan to fly to Luederick , he told me that he had a German Friend in that town and would send him an SMS about my arrival.
The Mechanics and Pilots on Field asked me if I would make an Low pass on Departure which of course I gladly complied with.
Swakopmund Airfield is very busy with Sightseeing Flight for Tourist wanting to see the the great Namibia Desert..... they must have 50 C210 doing just that all season long.
After buzzing the Field heading south and this stretch of 240 Nautical miles is just spectacular
about 20 miles south of Walvis Bay , the road turns inland and there is nothing to disturb this untouched Namibia Desert where the Dunes meeting the Ocean..... really really nice.
The Flight at 300 ft down the coast was just pure Fun.... and I Landed on Luederick after just a little over an hour.
Big long Paved Runway , Nobody in the Tower .... No AVGAS , but the first thing the Official wanted coming out to the Airplane was to get the Landing fee collected , not much at $ 6.50
the receipt he was making with 3 copies taking an half an hour costed more I think.
He told me that he had send out a Notam about the Fuel Situation , but could not show this Notam anywhere.
it seem the whole south of Namibia is affected by the AVGAS situation and I might have to
bury my plan to Fly up the Fish River Canyon which must be spectacular similar than the Grand Canyon in the USA.
Instead probably need to backtrack to Swakopmund to get AVGAS.
Will see tommorow.
Luderick was ones an Little German Settlement because of the Diamond mines close by
Today there are a few old typical German Houses left besides that the Town feels deserted
No People , stores are closed, maybe because it is Saturday.
Jurgen Friend Gerd waited for me at the Airport and showed me around and showed me his latest Oyster farm business which he started last January producing several hundert tausend
Oyster every month.
He starts with 6 mm long Oysters he gets from the Hatchery and grow's em to about half size before he whole Sales them to Oyster-farms in Walvis Bay which then let grow to full size before Retail them.
Is quite Labor Intensive since the the have to take the basket out every month an grade and sort all those little creatures. I can see now why Oyster are pretty expensive , but I don't like em anyway.
Checked in at Haus Sandrose and wandered a little true the empty streets before Dinner at
Bay-view Restaurant.
Tommorow will try to get Fuel at the Sossosviel Lodge , which Jannie Silver recommended a Guy I never met but got the contact true Face book from another Guy Facebook contact I never true yet another one....all very Friendly and helpful People.... tanks for Facebook.
I was never really a Fan of Facebook until now probably becoming one.
I do not know what the fuss is about Luederick it seem to me that this little Seaside City is mainly a Fish export Facility , having seen a lot of Refrigerator Containers in the harbour.
But what Do I know....... a little more every Day.
