We sailed to Alaska from San Francisco on a ten day round trip cruise.  Since San Francisco is just a 90 minute drive from our home, we boarded the ship directly from the pier in San Francisco.  We made arrangements for Super Shuttle to pick us up and drive us right to the pier.  What a relief it was not to have to fuss with parking or airport transfers.

We spent several days at sea.  The waters were fairly rough for the first few days, but then things calmed down for the remainder of our cruise.

The entertainment on the ship was fun.  We always went to the show after dinner and usually found a bar for karoke, dancing, or music for a few hours after that.

Our first stop was Sitka, a small Russian town.  It was raining throughout our visit in this charming town.  Be sure to visit Totem Pole Park, which is walking distance from the ship.  We spotted a few bald eagles on our walk.  The short hiking trails through the park are definitely worth it.  The forest is lush and green.  Exactly like you picture an Alaskan forest.

Juneau was our next stop.  The tram ride located right at the pier takes you to a gorgeous mountain with majestic hiking trails.  It's a great place to take pictures of Juneau below.

The highlight of our trip was a helicopter ride to a glacier.  The helicopter ride was fantastic.  We hiked around the glacier for an hour and then returned to Juneau.  We really felt that we were in Alaska as we walked around on the glacier, tasting some of the melted glacier water.

Our next visit was to Skagway where we rode the train, enjoyed a salmon bake, and visited a house of ill repute.

The ship sailed into Tracy Arm and ventured as close to a glacier as it could.  We were able to snap some fabulous shots of the glacier.  Bring warm clothes and handwarmers so you can view the glacier from an outdoor deck in comfort!

As we headed south, we stopped in sunny Victoria.  This is a charming city that is fun to explore.  Don't miss the Butterfly Gardens and Buschart Gardens.
