We had to high tail it to Canberra to meet Annette's sister Gail who flew over to spend a week with us.  It was wonderful to catch up with her and the news from home.  We wasted no time in checking out the sights of Canberra.  It was my first time there and I was impressed with the myriad of things to do in our capital.  My favourite attractions are the War Memorial (cos its impressive) and Parliament house (cos its funny watching grown ups have schoolyard arguments).  I've been to the War Memorial three times now and still there is much to see.  On one day I fronted up to the Portrait Gallery and was VERY warmly greeted and then introduced to the Marketing Director and the CEO.  I received this friendly welcome because I was the 1.5 Millionth visitor.  I am now a member and have a coffee table book with all the gallery works.  My mug shot may even appear on the next magazine!

Other great attractions were the National Museum, Questacon (like Scitech), the Royal Mint, Old Parliament House, National Archives (where "Lady Jane Barton" guides you through), Bus Depot Markets and more.  Annette and Gail were so taken by the glass works at the markets they both bought matching red glass vases which Gail has to lug home in her luggage.  Watching the hot air balloons taking off from in front of Parliament was also a great experience.  We would have liked to be in one but for $870 for the family thought we could wait.

On the final night of Gail's stay we went to the Queanbeyan Rodeo, from which Annette is still recovering from the anxiety caused by cowboys being thrown to the ground and knocked unconcious by bucking broncos and bulls.  Gail and I thought it was great fun.

We were lucky to be there for Canberra's 98th Birthday and caught free concert with Jimmy Barnes and the Pot Belleez.  On Sky fire night there was also F18 flyover.  The city certainly seems anything but dull.
