Home of the Motorcycle Grand Prix and Penguin Parade.  We spent an enjoyable few days but found the cost of the Penguin Parade viewing experience to be totally over the top at $100 for the family to sit and watch the penguins arrive in the evening.  The National Park infrastructure and buildings seemed to far eclipse the event they were supposed to protect.  We gave this a miss having seen penguins on Kangaroo Is and Tasmania.  Sent the kids into Amaze n Things, which they loved, lots of 3D illusions and stuff to keep them amused while we drank coffee.

We were there the weekend prior to the Superbike World Championship race so were able to watch some test laps, rather impressive as the bikes push 300km/h.  Cody loved the Scalectric motor car set at Phillip Is racetrack, which we all got to race, and is apparently the biggest in Australia (although Im sure there'll be some keen enthusiast or kid out there with a bigger one).

We also tried our first meal at an RSL on Phillip Island.  It was spacious, good atmosphere and well fitted out.  Meals were good value.  The surprise came at 9pm when we were asked to stand to observe a minutes silence for lives lost in service. Not something we have in the West but aside from the Pokie machines, pretty good.
