So I decided to stay another day in Chiang Mai instead of taking the 17 hour night train to Bangkok. It sounded like a cool experience at the time, but after thinking about it, I decided not.  I figure I would spend the extra money and fly back to allow me more time here.  There were a couple more things I wanted to do.

I heard that you can get massages at the women's prison in Chiang Mai.  It wasn’t located on a main street so it took me some time to find it.  Overall, it was about a 30 minute walk from my guesthouse.  I had to switch places to stay because my original guesthouse was full so I found Kim guesthouse around the corner.  I still liked the Lanna Thai better.

The massage place is just outside the walls separate from the prison.  It looked like a normal massage parlor except for the guards standing by.  You figure getting massaged by inmates would bring a big manly looking lady, but to my surprise, all of them were cute little petite girls.  I wonder what they were in for.  I wanted to ask but didn’t want to offend them.  They might pick them out on purpose to attract the tourists.  They called it a rehabilitation program to help the ladies when they get out.  Hopefully, it is and not slave labor.

The girl I got worked me pretty good.  She first washed my feet after I changed into what looked liked hospital clothing with strings that tied.  She instructed me to lay down on a nice comfy mattress with linen hanging all around.  She proceeded to bend my leg, head, arms, fingers, back, and neck every which way.  Did I miss any body part?  She also pushed hard on my pressure points in those same areas.  It was definitely worth the 7 US dollars for the hour.  I gave a dollar as a tip, but who knows if they get it or the government takes it.

After having a relaxing cup of tea there, I left and walked around the city some more and sort of got lost even though I had a map.  They do not post street signs visibly so I ended up walking for about an hour or so.  I ended up back at the bar I went to the night before.  I was going to met up with Maew, the girl I met last night that worked at the bar, for dinner and some shopping at the night market.

We bought some things, had some seafood, and talked about her family and mine.  She is divorced with two kids that live back at home with her parents.  We got along pretty well.  She wanted to know when I was coming back to Chiang Mai.  I said probably sooner than later.
