So today was my 10:30am appointment to the Infectious Disease and Indiana Travel Clinic in Indianapolis near Carmel. I arrived on time because it was very close to my home. They had me fill out the standard forms about myself, you know, allergies, past surgeries, and so on.
I looked around and remembered the sign on the door saying something about infectious diseases. I tried not to imagine what kind of diseases all of these people were carrying around me. Not a good thought to have before my trip so I quickly began thinking about something else.
Everyone in the waiting room were called in and I was left alone. Then more people came into the office. And they, too, were called in as well. This lasted for 45 minutes. I was getting pretty annoyed.
So when I was finally called in, I was met by an old nurse guy explaining the vaccines and costs. They were pretty expensive, but I was already there so I got Hepatitis A and Typhoid shot for $150.00 so I thought. It was kind of like ordering off a menu but quickly felt like I was buying a car because when I got up to pay, the cashier added on a nursing visit fee, a shot administer fee, and an additional shot administer fee. So whats my total you ask.....$260.00. I would have have given the shots to myself if I knew I was being charged for it. Well, I guess I don't have to worry about people washing their hands after using the restroom since I have been inoculated. I also got a script for malaria and diarrhea and they were covered under my insurance thankfully.
I found out later that I could have went to the CDC (Center for Disease Control) in Indy and paid close to nothing for my shots. Go figure.
