Well, after a pretty relaxing month, albeit one in which i consumed several times my own bodyweight in rum and had a monkey as a best friend, it was time to move on. I left the park with an Irish guy called John, and we spent a night in another big Bolivian city (Cochabamba), which was on the whole pretty uninspiring and we left early the next day. La Paz, if you dont know, is the Worlds highest capital city, and is quite simply, unique.

We arrived after dark, and what seemed like an eternity driving through some pretty bleak neighbourhoods of El Alto finally made it down into the bowl that is La Paz city. La Paz means the peace, and it certainly is a long way from the truth.... Fortunately (or unfortunately) we were able to get straight into the main party hostel called Loki. Ready for a big night out, I had a few beers, but that was as far as it went. I think its probably a combination of the altitude and the excessive nights out to that point that meant that I just couldnt get into the spirit. So I was in bed by 11pm. The next few days were not much better, I started getting sick and shivery, and really couldnt handle the pace. After a while though, things started picking up a little and i was able to head out a few times. I ended up in a place called Vivians, which will stick in my memory as being possibly the most seedy place ive ever seen (and thats saying something), but unless you really want to know more Im trying to blank it out of this story...

There was also an exciting night at the womens wrestling, which wasa hilarious, and an obligitory ride down the Worlds most dangerous road which would have been more like its title if you had to do it on a unicycle blindfolded, but you dont.

I then skipped off to Copocabana (see separate entry) for the first time with some other Irish friends, Clare and Killian before returning to celebrate Will`s 30th birthday, ending up in Vivians again, and not getting to bed until 12.30 the next afternoon. That was also the day of the huge stret carnival in the city, which was quite impressive, apart from the inconvenience it caused me trying to cross the road, and the cast rivers of urine that enveloped the pavements from late afternoon onwards (hmm, nice). I also met up with Laura and some other friends again, and I was happy to get out of the place after 2 weeks and head to the jungle.
