MY original plans when deciding to undertake my `year off`involved doing some sort of voluntary work, preferably with wildlife, and id found out lots about an organisation in Bolivia (Inti Wari Yassi) that owned 2 parks in the jungles of Bolivia. The idea was to have space to rehabilitate and release former captive monkeys, big cats and birds, and use the volunteers and their money to pay for it.

To be honest, spending 50quid to be able to spend 2 weeks with these sorts of animals was an easy choice as ive always been interested in this sort of thing. Anyway, the first few days were a bit hard as the conditions were a bit basic and there seemed to be not a lot to do in the evenings, but I met a few great people (as usual), and played lots of poker and drank lots of rum so it was pretty cool in the end. As for the daily chores, I had an easy life. I was looking after a female Howler monkey, and may day involved making her breakfast or some fruit, hanging around with her on the end of the rope as she climbed on buildings and up trees, and then getting bored and readin a book until she came down. Generally really loveable and playful, she was also as right bloody madam who could turn bitchy at any moment. This part of her charachter might explain why she enjoyed attacking (savagely mind) innocent girls passing by. Anyway, in balance she was a great little monkey who I was very sorry to leave.

But I did, lets all spare a thought for the little monkey, Talia. Bless her cotton socks!
