We took a winding 8 hour bus ride to Kullu.  The couple from the train were there and were fabulously ill for much of the journey, taking turns vomiting out the window.  Unfortunately no photos.  I was still battling Delhi Belly, but managed to keep it together, thanks to large quantities of immodium.  A long and painful journey which Lloyd assures me was actually pretty mild by Indian standards.

We arrived at Kullu in the afternoon determined to continue to Manikaran, but ended up spending the night as the simple task of finding an ATM became a lengthy one.  Kullu is pretty much a hole; a center of commerce for the valley and the administrative capital of the region.  It has no redeeming qualities.  My overly negative view could be due to the Delhi Belly.  Who knows.

We spent much of the following day negotiating the terms for our trek through the Parvati Valley and over the Pin Pass to the Pin Valley.  I would guess 3 hours were spent with a guy from the hotel and the owner of a local trekking company.  After much "discussion", we ended up agreeing to one guide, one cook and three porters, with the hotel guy tagging along as a sixth hanger-on.

In the afternoon we made our way to Manikaran.
