We've had a wonderful few days in Richmond, Virginia with our amazing friends Amy and Gabriel. It was so nice to spend a few days chilling out after the manic-ness of camp and disney world! our greyhound bus was as delightful as ever, with the usual array of wierdos, although we didnt get any death threats this time! arrived way later than expected because our bus decided to breakdown in the middle of Jamestown, which was where the first british settlement was built way back in the day! the weather was absolutely boiling, just as hot as florida but much more humid - inside the apartment we were staying in it reached temperatures as hot as 96 degrees! On our first day, me and johanna explored the part of virginia known as carytown, a great place full of quirky little shops and independant stores, reminded me of the north laine in brighton! our only mistake was to go into a shop which sold beautiful dresses. half an hour later we emerged with a few shopping bags. VERY VERY bad, especially since our backpacks are alreadly full to bursting! went to our thai food that night to celebrate amy's birthday , it was so good to have some decent food after eating so much crap since we left camp! the next johanna and myself went to a beautifully restored movie theatre called the byrd theatre which showed re-run movies for only 2 dollars, amazing! On our final day we went for a picnic in a beautiful part of the city called maymont, it was amazing just to lay on the grass and chill! so that summed up our time in virginia! yesterday we boarded a bus back up to new york to spend our last few days before i head off on my cross country trek tomorrow. once again our bus journey was eventful as ever, only 90 minutes late this time! once we got to new york we had the problem of finding somewhere to stay - for one reason or another the person we were supposed to be staying with could make it to new york in time so we figured we wouldnt have a problem getting a couple of hostel beds. But no... when we got to the hostel that had informed us they had beds they told us they were fully booked! we then called every hostel we could think of and they were all full to bursting! not good! and just when i was close to bursting into tears, we called some other amazing friends from camp who live in brooklyn who said it absoulutely wasnt a problem for us to stay for a few days! you cant imagine how good that felt knowing that i wouldnt have to spend the night riding the subway until daylight! so thats where i am now! today we are heading to central park for a yummy picnic and to spend to good quality time together!
Tomorrow im heading off on my trek, so apologies if i dont get in contact very much over the next few weeks - a lot of it is camping so we'll be in the middle of nowhere, but ill try my hardest to keep you updated with news and pictures!
thats about it for now! send me all your news, id love to hear from you
all my love hollie xxxx
