I was forced to go to the neighboring Emirate of Sharjah by my Drawing Teacher to view the Sharjah Biennial. Basically, this is a collection of deconstructionist art revolving around a theme. This year's theme was Ecology and our planet.
It was a pain in the butt to get there, though, because I had to take a bus across town, and then take a bus to Sharjah, and then take a taxi to the Expo Center. Although this impressed my teacher, who gave me a ride back to the Uni.
To be honest, I could have spent my time on bigger and better things, but I got some photos, and I want to get rid of them. So take a look:
There was this giant kaleidescope made of steel and mirror, and at one end they had a canvas on which they projected images. When you looked inside the glass lined walls, you got an image like how you see here. If you looked down or up or to the sides, you saw that the patterns projected to infinity, eventually fading till black. Man, it was cool.
I like this image. I don't know what it means, but anyway, this is how I for one feel about cities that incessantly build skyscrapers!
There was a whole series of drawings like this on the wall; it was part of a larger exhibit where they had all these weird-shaped humanoid creatures that looked partially mutilated and were strewn about the floor. It looked like victims of a suicide bombing; and on the wall were these series of pictures of gooze rising. There was a blurb beside these explaining what the exhibit was all about, etc., and a dialogue revealing an apocalyptic world which will undoubtedly result from mankind's destruction of planet earth.
Pretty powerful stuff.
