I managed to get into the World Cup for free...I met these people from Texas who have taken me under their wing, and they got free tickets and invited me to come.

The Dubai World Cup is just a horse race, not a soccer/football match, but it is the world's preeminent horse race.  There are a series of seven races, and the last one is the most important.

However, for many folks, the races aren't nearly as important as the fashion.  Ladies get very dressed up, and wear big colorful feathered hats.  There is a fashion competition, even!  I for my part didn't get especially dressed up, and I sure as heck wasn't going to waste more money on a hat.  Then I sat around cursing myself about my lack of glamor.  However--you can tell the rich from those aspiring to be rich by whether or not they lay the glamor on thick...so maybe everyone assumed I was upper class!  [Giggles to self.]   I wish I had pictures to show you, but ah well, you can look it up on the internet yourself.

The attendants seem mostly to be British or Australian, by the way...I've never figured out what's up with that.  But then, I don't understand what's up with horses in general.  Perhaps my family can fill me in on this.

That's mostly what I remember about the World Cup.  I wish I had gotten to see more of the horses and less of the fashion show, but you only got to see the horses run past once each race, and each race lasted less than three minutes.  I also got to see Sheikh Muhammad, who is, of course, a human, and not a horse...and a very cool human at that.  Man, I just wish the leaders of our country were as cool as the leaders of this one.  Ah yes, and speaking of cool, the best part was the light show and the flying Emiratis...so awesome.  So awesome.

And that's all I have to say about that.
