Our first stop on the trip was Slovenia, by way of Frankfurt, Germany, and Klagenfurt, Austria.  We saw Frankfurt for ten hours in a jet-lagged daze, and spent much of our time asleep in a park near the river that runs through the heart of town.  We also found out that the airport for our next flight (called Frankfurt Hahn) was not as close as we thought it was to Frankfurt am Mein Airport, and was actually 120km away.  Luckily there was a cheap bus.  We flew from Frankfurt Hahn to Klagenfurt, Austria, where Susie´s mom and her husband, Bill, picked us up and took us to Slovenia.

Our time in Slovenia was spent seeing much of the stunning and quaint country, visiting castles, caves, cities, the coast and the Alps.  We based ourselves out of Kamnik, which is where Susie´s mom grew up.  Our closest relatives (new ones for Jay) live in Ljubljana, the country´s capital, and we spent a good deal of time there.

Fortunately, our departure from Slovenia included a flight out of Venice, giving us just enough time to run through the maze of streets and canals that fill the city.
