. Because this is a complex of buildings we are WAY up on the top of the hill…good for views but bad for the drive. The place is so big you have to take shuttles around. There was no place to park and Jym was annoyed that we had to be escorted to the room by a bell man so he refused to allow him to help with the luggage so we ended up hoofing it all ourselves and parking in a fire zone to do so. Then my biggest peeve yet the washer/dryer. It’s a combo…as in the same drum supposedly washes AND dries. Um NO it does NOT. Hate to break it to you all. The poor maintenance guy has been to our unit 3 times. First because the damn thing wouldn’t let our laundry out and then because the internet was not working and now again because I called to say the “dryer” is not drying. They said this is the #1 complaint they get yet they are replacing all their units with these which SUCK. My clothes are soaked and now hanging around and it took 3 hours to wash and “dry” 1 load of 7 things. I now have a good 3 loads to go (it’s a SMALL drum) and it is so loud I can’t do it at night. Of course maybe it would drown out the sound of the neighbors! You know the guy who owns the Westgate is a piece of shit anyway. He is one of those sickeningly wealthy men who lavishes himself with the best of everything while the people who work for him struggle to make ends meet. It is obvious from looking at this unit the amount of care that goes into the units which is NONE. This unit is maybe 3 years old and it is poorly constructed. The counter tops are crooked and the doors aren’t level (as referenced in afore mentioned gap under the door which is an obvious wedge shape. The appliances are questionable and cheap. Hell the refrigerator in the Residence Inn was awesome…stainless and large. This is like something from a small apartment loft from the 70s. The décor on the surface is wildernessy and attractive but you can see that little to no care goes into anything here. You can also tell the employees are not happy (although some of them are very kind and attempt to be helpful). I have seen this disgruntled sadness in myself and in Jym so I know it when I see it. Also they have expressed it. When you tell the guests how shitty it is work here it MUST be shitty to work here. And I can see why. Frankly no one is telling me anything I couldn’t figure out on my own.
This hotel is a disaster. I want to say that I am usually spot on with my hotel choices and although I feel I missed the mark on this one I honestly can say I felt bad about it from the minute I booked it. I guess I should go with my instincts more. The hotel is a Westgate and the ONLY reason I booked it was that it was seemingly the best of the worst options. I wanted something not in the city itself because I THOUGHT I was going to be spending all my time in the park and not in town and since I heard Gatlinburg is like I-Drive I didn't really think I would enjoy that atmosphere. This resort is a time share so it had units with washer/dryers which is why I chose this one. On the plus side I will say it has a fireplace (albeit a fake one but whatever) and a nice bed. It also has a nice shower…I think. I have yet to use it but it appears nice. It has a balcony and it overlooks the mountains so it’s a nice view. The downsides (among only a few…too many to list) are that the internet sucks. There is a "shared" door in our room presumably to open to a larger unit for people who need more room…with a gap under it so large a nice size rat could walk underneath it and I can see the light from our neighbors room as well as hear EVERYTHING they are saying
