Oooooh it's the rare and elusive mid day blog entry…Last night I was in the bar super late downloading my blog and pics. Jym headed back to the room before me.  Apparently this is the only hangout at this time of year since nothing else is open.  It got loud and rowdy so I attempted to leave and realized how dark it was and very cold and windy.  As I walked back to the room I looked across the street and there was a whole mess of goats…just laying down. Very funny. I had to take a picture of that.

Overnight it was cold but the ice formed in a very different way in the lake.  There were large almost iceberg like chunks that were solid and then very few of the smaller crystals from the night before.  It has become very windy now.  Our morning was supposed to start at sunrise but it was so cold we crawled back into bed until 8!  We had breakfast at one of the 2 options we have for meals right now.  That is one thing that has really bothered me.  Our breakfast was basically nothing more than I would get at Denny’s for $5 and it cost a ridiculous $40 plus tip CAD…so that is like MORE in US Dollars.  Are you kidding me?  To make it worse there is not even a grocery or anything where we can just get something quick or cheap.  Everything is closed until Victoria Day pretty much.  So we are at the mercy of the few places that are open.  At least I get a 10% discount at one of them.  I should have eaten there the whole time but we thought we would "try" something different.  I had planned on little picnic lunches etc…as well and have been unable to do that as there is no where to get “picnic” food.  The hotel I am in has a few places that they own including the bar and a small eatery for like lunches and to go foods for picnics etc but although the “open” light has been on it is indeed NOT open til next weekend.

So this morning after our expensive breakfast we went for a drive.  We attempted to go further today up the 6 which is “closed” due to snow apparently.  It is the road to the US border so I thought it was funny that the US Border is closed.  I should be so lucky as to be stuck here…although it did dawn on me that I am glad that I didn’t choose to do Glacier National Park first as this would have been a nightmare.  Another bullet dodged.  Anyway we made it pretty far down the road.  Its blocked off but it says you can proceed at your own risk which we did.  That is how we saw the elk herd last night.  Today we managed to go pretty far before just turning around (I am still not certain where the blockage is) but it was very peaceful as we climbed up through the mountains.  Still no moose though.  Jym is convinced that Canada does not actually HAVE moose.  I am still holding out hope.

We returned from our drive to town and are having an amazing burger (Alberta beef!) at the bar. Then we both have pedicures at the spa in town this afternoon.  Ironically I am watching GOLF as I have been witness to the “G” logo every time I am in here.  To make this more odd…the entire town of Waterton has NO TV…the hotel I am in (and its owned properties such as the bar) have satellite which consists of 5 channels…and POOF…somehow against all odds there it is…

Speaking of…there is weird poop all over town.  Not sure who or what is making the poop.  We surmise it is probably the goats or the Mule deer as we have seen them in abundance but no one has dared to create the poop in front of us so we have no way of knowing for sure.  You can’t take 2 steps without stepping in it though.

Tonight after a drive we have decided to do some laundry and possibly try some pizza for dinner…our cheapest option although ironically that is not cheap either…I think like $20 for 12 inch…Just filled the car up…stopped at $50 (keep in mind that is always more in US $).  It was $1.37 a liter I think…not sure if that is good but thinking it isn’t due to the fact that they had one pump and it’s the only gas for like an hour!  It’s a small car too…Nissan Versa.  Thought it would get good gas mileage but I thinking it might not be.
