So, it's been a luxury in Banff. Firstly we've stayed 3 whole nights, which feels like nearly settling down and secondly Banff is the biggest town we've been in for a while. Also Banff has a fantastic bus system called Roam, which means we've been able to leave Betsy the RV in the campground while we explore the area. We'd done 1300km when we arrived here, a third thro our adventure, so we've levelled out the mileage too now.
Somehow Tasha was stupid enough to once more get on a cable car. Cara assures her the photo was taken before she started to actually cry out of sheer terror. There's nothing so great as realising once you've done something terrifying that the only way back down is in the same plastic bucket on a string.
That said, the view from the top (sulphur mountain I think) is probably the best view either of us has ever seen in our lives.
To calm the nerves, once we were down we went to the Upper Banff Hot Springs...delicious! W
Natural spring water is actually cooled to a sweltering 39 degrees. You can't really spend too long without sitting on the side for a bit. Cara says it's even more magical in the snow.
We've had lovely meals out and even the odd Starbucks (told you we were townies), have done window shopping as well as walking and went to the wee Lux cinema here to enjoy butter popcorn...oh and see a film. It all feels like real luxury. Tasha has even been to a real launderette (thank god).
As ever we're never far from a trainline to keep us in touch with industry in the night...we'd assumed the honking was for wildlife but apparently it just doesn't work. The poor animals (bear and elk often) sometimes just keep running on the tracks and get hit anyway.
So tonight's our last in Banff and probably in Alberta before we start out on our journey south west. Can really imagine spending longer here, but weve got a lot of places still to squeeze, and might even make Vancouver Island if we make good time. We'll still be on Mountain Time for a few days yet tho we reckon. then we get an extra hour back. Woo hoo!
